Reshaping your arms and thighs
We can reshape your arms and thighs to improve their contour. We call this "arm and thigh reduction". It involves cutting excess skin and fat from your upper arms and inner thighs.
We sometimes combine the surgery with liposuction. We can sometimes achieve improvement in the contour of your arms and thighs by liposuction alone.
You should note that these procedures are not designed for weight reduction.
Why might you consider reshaping your arms and thighs?
There are two main reasons to consider surgical procedures for improving the contour of your arms and thighs.
- You may have lost a large amount of weight and have excess tissue that you want removed from your arms and thighs.
- You may have considered liposuction to improve the contour of your arms and thighs. However, because your skin has a tendency to stretch or is already quite stretched, liposuction on its own is not an option.
You are given a general anaesthetic for all arm and thigh surgery.
We make a cut from the armpit to the inner elbow and remove the excess tissue.
We make a cut from the groin down the inner side of the thigh and remove the excess tissue. If you need a lot of tissue removed, the cut may almost reach the knee.
In both types of surgery, we sometimes also use liposuction to remove small pockets of fat.
After the operation
You can have arm reduction as a day procedure.
You usually need 1 to 2 nights in hospital for thigh reduction.
Most people get back to normal levels of activity 3 to 4 weeks after their operation. However, you need to restrict vigorous exercise such as gym work for at least 6 weeks.
The end result
The outcome for you will be a marked improvement in the contour of your arms and thighs. This will look best when you are clothed and the scars are hidden.
You will have a scar running from the armpit to the inner elbow.
You will have a scar in the groin and often running down the inner side of the thigh. If you have had a lot of tissue removed, the scar may almost reach the knee.
The scars on arms and thighs tend to stretch with time. If you are concerned about their appearance, keep a check that the clothes you wear do not expose them.
