As we age our eyelashes start to thin. Mascara and other lash enhancements can’t reverse this process. Latisse® (bimatoprost) is a scientifically proven treatment that helps grow your natural lashes, with the final results seen by 16 weeks.
Latisse® is a prescription product and you will need a consultation first to ensure it is safe for you to use. We will provide you with information about the product and ensure you are aware of the risks associated with using it.
Latisse® helps to grow your eyelashes, making them longer, fuller and darker. The benefits of Latisse® may also appeal to those with fair hair or less noticeable lashes.
You can be seen by a nurse or surgeon. During the consultation you will be assessed and a medical history will be taken to ensure it will be safe for you to use Latisse®. There are always potential side effects and complications with any prescription drug and these will be discussed with you during your consultation.
The consultation will take about 30 minutes and if you decide to start using Latisse®. We will take before pictures for you so that you can see the difference after you have been using the product for 16 weeks. We always offer our patients a follow up appointment so that we can review the results together.
The solution is applied to clean eyelids once a day using the sterile, disposable applicators provided in the kit. We recommend it as part of your night time regime. It should only be applied to the base of the upper lashes, not the lower lid.
As well as the photographs we take at weeks 0 and 16, you may want to take your own photographs to chart your progress throughout the weeks. Some change may be noticeable as early as 4 weeks but you will not see the full effect until week 16.
Latisse® takes time to work and does require some patience. Only use it once a night. Using it more than this will not increase the growth of the eyelashes. You will get the best possible results from the product if you are using it as part of a strict regime.
Although some patients notice increased eyelash length and thickness as early as 4 weeks, most patients will only have their final result after a full 16 weeks of use. At WPSI we bring all our Latisse® patients in for a review and photographs at this final stage.
Some patients experience some slight irritation/itching of their eyes and eyelash margin during their first week of using Latisse®. This usually settles down in the second week.
If patients have any concerns or questions during the process of using Latisse® we always encourage you to contact us so that we can review you. There have been occasional reports of an increase in colouring or pigment of the iris and/or area around the eyes associated with Latisse®. This risk will be discussed with you during your consultation.
